Blog Getting Attention
It’s been a few months since I gave my blog the attention it’s getting in a few days!
Thanks to Frederique, I felt prompted to once again journal and blog my thoughts, suprises, projects etc.
I’ve been enhancing the blog implementation too, installing a new version of Blosxom, (I know weird name), and a search feature, as well as a bunch of other overdue plugins.
Thanks to all you loyal readers who send me notes every day. I love hearing from you. Don’t be afraid to post.

Tombo Blogging
Ok, it’s working! the last two blogs were created on the pocket pc using Tombo. In fact, this blog, HTML and all is too! After a day of blogging, the freeware file syncing software uploads my posts.
Now if there was only an easy way to preserve Windows file stamps when uploading to UNIX.

Pocket Posting
Posting from Tombo would be a cool way to blog. Syncronizing places a copy of the blog on the pc, then an application or Perl script could FTP data to a web server.
I think there must be a non-pocket PC program out the which syncronizes folders with web directories. That’s what I’ll look for.

Two New Scripts
I’ve been going crazy programming the last week!
Last week ik made a script (DIP) for updating Dynamic IP addresses on a web server.
Today I wrote a Perl script that reads Microsoft ‘Free/Busy’ files on a web server and displays the information in a calendar format just like it does within Outlook!
Cool!

New Site Underway
Metaphor has always been king in my life, and the idea of living in a giant metaphor is intriguing! It reminds me a little bit of watching Matrix— watching a giant metaphor for something, nobody is sure what.
Anyway, a new site is being developed at work to describe the Christian ‘walk’ through life. The URL is thePathway.ca. It’s pretty interesting to see how it’s all coming together.

Two New Web Projects
I’m working on two new web projects right now. Wow, I’m getting quite a list! ![]()
The first is a medical database program which connects patients with doctors, and their medical history via the web. It’s called oscarCitizen, and it’s the next phase of the open source OSCAR project. I’m just responsible for the front end and design/branding of the site. You can see my sample page and progress from here: oscarCitizen.
I’m also developing a site for a recording studio in Hamtilon called the Fonic Factory.

Eat And Run Cafe
I’ve been working on a site the last day for a business in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They have approached fast food from a completely different angle, and wanted a site that was funny, and tongue-in-cheek.
I settled on a comic theme, and I’m quite happy with the results. Check it out:

It suddenly dawned on me this evening that I created a new skin a number of months ago and never turned it ‘on.’ So here it is. If you like the old skin better, then go here: SiteSkinner. Any thoughts on the new look?

old database script: any news?
I cannot find it in Intelliscript.net downloads
Hi there,
No news— it’s still around, but not for sale because it takes considerable Perl knowledge to make it work for any database. I’m currently adapting it to work as an MP3 artist database like the one at MP3.com. You can see that at http://jasonsilver.com/music.
I’ll sell you a copy of the database script if you want it though. $15 should do it.

JasonSilver.com
I’m pumped! Yesterday afternoon JasonSilver.com finally became available again! Some guy in Toronto has had it without a site for the last three years or more. Just a ‘this page is under construction’ sign. I’ve been checking on it ever since waiting for it to come available, and even emailed him a few times. He wasn’t interested in selling it and wouldn’t put a link up to my site either. So I guess he lost and I won.
Speaking of which, I was going through my favourites folder the other day and just couldn’t believe how many sites are gone now which at one time seemed to be so big and important. Why, I wonder? I guess I’ve been on the web in one form or another— with a site I mean, since 1995 or so. But even my first site, www.tran-scribe.com is long gone. I guess I shouldn’t act too suprised. It’s just amazing to me, and kind of sad, that sites are year toay and gone tomorrow.
Anyway, JasonSilver.com will be my music site. Right now you can get to an early form of this site by visiting this page, but I hope to enhance the site to be able to stream for fast and slow connections, to have a message board maybe— for people to ask about my music, and operate the whole thing more like a database. Looks like I’ll be writing another script! ![]()
So keep checking for JasonSilver.com… there’s nothing much there right now, and it might be a few days until it actually works, but let me know what you think!

Someday a Family Tree Script
Right now, as you may have noticed, I use my iTreePad script to manage my family tree… but I really want to write a real family tree script. I see it as being a relational database, complete with pictures of each person. Because it’s a database, (maybe programmed in MYSQL) it can be relational TO THE MAX. iTreePad doesn’t handle complex mulit-dimensional relationships very well.
The thing is, I’ve got to get off my butt and learn MYSQL. I also don’t look forward to learning PHP, but I think I might have to… can Perl work with MYSQL? Maybe this would be another opportunity to work with Perl’s DBI, which I really like.
Anyone out there care to comment?

Free MP3s to Download
Well, I finally got around to moving mp3.com material to this site… it’s not organised as nicely as MP3.com, but I didn’t ever really like it that way anyway.
So, check out some of my music if you want: free mp3s here.
I’m also thinking of a more appropriate way to navigate this site. When I moved all the Perl scripts to Intelliscript.net, this site kind of lost it’s purpose. I decided to make it a place to post my blogs, to think about life, to keep in touch with friends, and stuff like that. I’m thinking of making the navigation more like: Who Am I? : Christian | Husband | Father | Musician | Programmer | Pastor | Webmaster | Artist | Gardener | Writer | Friend
What do you think?

Added FAQ-Search Today
I just added another script to Intelliscript.net today. It’s called FAQ-Search, and it is a script which allows you to add a Frequently Asked Questions database to your site. I’ve been using it on my sites for a few months now… I guess maybe a year. I finally got around to packaging it and uploading. Here it is!

I’ve been adding a lot of new features to iTreePad which makes it even more useful to use as family tree software. In particular, virtualnodes and displaying child nodes in articles are important additions.

Found It! ODBC Accessed by Perl!
Well I did it! It makes so much sense now. I wrote a Perl script which accesses my database using ODBC, and displays the results to a browser. The tricky part in all this is that:
1. The database resides on a Windows machine
2. Perl needs to be installed on that machine
3. A HTTP server needs to be installed on that machine
What I love about the script I wrote is that I can just paste in SQL, and the script does the rest. It’s not really rocket-science though, since I’m using a module (called DBI) which does the marriage between Perl and SQL. So now all I need is a better web server, because the one I’m using now is pretty slow. It’s got to be able to handle Server Side Includes, so if anyone has any ideas, post it, or email me.

Plugins - Mail Unsubscribe/Subscribe
I’ve been continuing to work on the unsubscribe and subscribe by email script, and I’ve FINALLY made headway! I predict that in a week or two it will be ready, unless I get really busy with my real job.
What’s cool is that this has opened a whole new bag of possibilities for me. I’m planning on writing and releasing a Blog Mail script, which will allow people to post to my blog from their email client. This is perfect for me to write to blogs from my pocket pc when I’m away from an Internet connection. When I sync up, my latest blogs will be saved to the server.
I plan on making the subject line of the email to be the control line, with something like "Blog: path/filename". The script reads emails from any pop account, looking for the word ‘blog’ at the front of the subject line. Then it takes the body of the email and saves it to the path specified.
Cool!
