old database script: any news?
I cannot find it in Intelliscript.net downloads
Hi there,
No news— it’s still around, but not for sale because it takes considerable Perl knowledge to make it work for any database. I’m currently adapting it to work as an MP3 artist database like the one at MP3.com. You can see that at http://jasonsilver.com/music.
I’ll sell you a copy of the database script if you want it though. $15 should do it.

JasonSilver.com

I’m pumped! Yesterday afternoon JasonSilver.com finally became available again! Some guy in Toronto has had it without a site for the last three years or more. Just a ‘this page is under construction’ sign. I’ve been checking on it ever since waiting for it to come available, and even emailed him a few times. He wasn’t interested in selling it and wouldn’t put a link up to my site either. So I guess he lost and I won.

Speaking of which, I was going through my favourites folder the other day and just couldn’t believe how many sites are gone now which at one time seemed to be so big and important. Why, I wonder? I guess I’ve been on the web in one form or another— with a site I mean, since 1995 or so. But even my first site, www.tran-scribe.com is long gone. I guess I shouldn’t act too suprised. It’s just amazing to me, and kind of sad, that sites are year toay and gone tomorrow.

Anyway, JasonSilver.com will be my music site. Right now you can get to an early form of this site by visiting this page, but I hope to enhance the site to be able to stream for fast and slow connections, to have a message board maybe— for people to ask about my music, and operate the whole thing more like a database. Looks like I’ll be writing another script! happy

So keep checking for JasonSilver.com… there’s nothing much there right now, and it might be a few days until it actually works, but let me know what you think!

Someday a Family Tree Script

Right now, as you may have noticed, I use my iTreePad script to manage my family tree… but I really want to write a real family tree script. I see it as being a relational database, complete with pictures of each person. Because it’s a database, (maybe programmed in MYSQL) it can be relational TO THE MAX. iTreePad doesn’t handle complex mulit-dimensional relationships very well.
The thing is, I’ve got to get off my butt and learn MYSQL. I also don’t look forward to learning PHP, but I think I might have to… can Perl work with MYSQL? Maybe this would be another opportunity to work with Perl’s DBI, which I really like.

Anyone out there care to comment?
